out of power

Saw this on the young-photo-club request for comment page and had to come take a look.

My first thought from the thumbnails was of spent bullets, or of lipstick containers, which could also be deadly in their way.  Even with the batteries it seems like three solders in a row with one comrade fallen.  Whether bullets or lipstick or batteries, the three plus one form takes precedence over the identity of the objects.  What once was potent has expired.  The black and white and subdued light and shadow lend a sombre tone.

I like the horizontal composition.  I'd be tempted to crop down to a double square.
